public advocacy

For the past few weeks we have been learning about what public advocacy is and what it consists of. In this entry I would like to discus about a discussion question about public advocacy that comes from the textbook. What the book wants to know is how does purpose audience and voice each contribute to your argument? I think that in arguments, purpose, audience, and voice equally contribute to what I am arguing. The reason why I believe this is that in order to have a successful argument you need to have a legitimate purpose on why you are arguing and with that that purpose you have voice you purpose. But as communicator people need to understand that an audience usually isn’t just a teacher it could be your whole class or even a community. Knowing what kind of audience you have can help you develop strong powerful, effective writing and presentations. With public advocacy there are other categories that you need to be an effective communicator. It doesn’t matter what type of communication; you are preforming you are going to need topic selection and a good thesis to help support what your purpose is. Topic selection is important because your topic should meet what the purpose of the assignment is. This topic should meet the interest of the audience should have a lot of information so that the audience could understand it better. Once you picked your topic, you have are going to need to have a thesis to show your audience what you hope to accomplish in what your are sending to them. With creating a thesis, you need to state your position in what you are supporting or against. Make sure that what you are supporting is an arguable claim; something you must support though your analysis. After reading and going through lectures of public advocacy I finally understand its importance. With out public advocacy I wouldn’t be able to properly communicate to people in an organized matter. Having a purpose voice and audience can help you present your topic and thesis you accomplish what your assignment or point is to whom you are sending your message.

  1. I agree that it is important to know your target audience in order to deliver a meaningful type of communication. Sometimes I forget when I'm participating in class that not only is our teacher listening but our whole class is listening. Good topic!!!
